It would be great if DropDownMenu could support errors also.

I often want to default drop down menus to a blank or please select option, then require that the user picks an option. This has the advantage that the user has to consciously pick an item from the list rather than ignoring the field.

Select Field in #846 should support this, though I haven't specifically tested with errorText
