Minecraft for Virtual Reality is just Minecraft Bedrock for Windows launched differently (minecraft://Mode/?OpenXR=true). Are the needed components for VR also included on the Android version (since bedrock is the same between platforms)? If so, would it be possible to add VR support to this launcher, and then use it on Steam VR and ALVR?
There is a mod for Android that enables VR, so I guess the needed components are already there?

Do you have the source code of such a mod? Mojang removed a lot of debugging symbols, since 1.16.210 / 1.13.0.9. I had to reduce the dependency to debugging symbols to proceed with this launcher.
This launcher allows launcher mods to modify the game, but these are not documented.
If someone finds a way to mod the game to run in VR mode, I would approve such a change as long it is optional.
It's not a mod, it's a version called Minecraft Gear Vr Edition, Sadly it does not use Vr controllers, it uses A Xbox or other similar controller but it is an apk file, but it's not on the play store, it's on the Oculus Gear Vr Store (Which is different to the Normal Oculus store) this may be possible but i am currently unsure
