It's currently possible to set the character type (Mundane, Mage, Technomancer) while the sheet is in edit mode.

A better variant would be to have a "new character" wizard when starting the application w/o any data in the store. Selecting the character type would also add the appropriate boxes for spells or matrix attributes to the default layout.
