Add SMOG as a readability measure. Many people find it a more accurate metric than F-K. See discussion in the link and references.
Potential Issues
Requires at least 30 sentences for a proper measure (may not work for short texts)
Need to identify words with >2 syllables
The basic metric behind SMOG (number of words with >2 syllables) could also feed a filter on the synonym recommendations. If one wants to communicate clearly and concisely, "utilize" is a fluff word and bad synonym for "use," likewise "necessitate" for "need," and "facilitate" for "help" or "assist." On the other hand, if you want baffle readers with BS because you can't dazzle them with brilliance, they're perfect. So maybe a selectable parameter for the filter--"Dazzle" or "Baffle."
