Just like 4chan and their standard API. Booru-like sites are following the Danbooru/Moebooru standard API.

Addendum:
I suggest "custom domain"...? I mean, does gallery-dl able to determine: is X site running under Danbooru/Moebooru? I mean, the X site could not listened on supported sites list.
