Please confirm these before moving forward

  • I have searched for my issue and not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved issue.
  • I have not been informed if the issue is resolved in a preview version of the winget client.

Category of the issue

Multiple installed packages found.

Brief description of your issue

The package Microsoft.DotNet.DesktopRuntime.7 (since 7.0.4) incorrectly finds pre version 7 versions.

Steps to reproduce

Upgrade Microsoft.DotNet.DesktopRuntime.7 to version 7.0.4

Actual behavior

Older versions of Microsoft DotNet DesktopRuntime (in my case 6.0.15 (both x86 and x64) and 3.1.32 (x64)) are matched by the Microsoft.DotNet.DesktopRuntime.7 manifest.

Expected behavior

None 7.x versions of this package should not be matched by the 7 version of this package.

It's obvious by now that this is:

  • not affecting a lot of people
  • is technically not feasible to fix (although I don't have those issues with other packages that can be installed side by side)
  • or ...?

What can I do to help fix this?

I don't know. It's very annoying. How did winget make it to stable? Seems still like a beta version.

Have the same issue, if any 6.X version is installed, winget thinks it needs to be upgraded to 7.x - but thats not possible since they independent. Windows Update updates them correctly (both 6.x and 7x to the newest version).
