Previously when I'd release an update to my extension (previous update was in 2019) I would see a distinct spike in the daily download numbers for a time after release as users would update (or VS would automatically update).
This was very useful as a coarse indicator of how many active installations of the extension I had.
Last week I updated the extensions for the first time in a couple of years. To my surprise I saw no change at all in the daily download numbers in the Reports section. I know it uploaded to VS Marketplace successfully as I saw it update automatically on my work PC, and a regular user contacted me regarding the update.
I'm guessing the Marketplace is now disregarding automatic IDE updates? Possibly so the 'Installs' statistic is not artificially inflated for extensions that are more regularly updated? It is a shame, because it was a very useful metric.
Could it be possible for the Reports page (which is accessible to the publisher) to include all download, including upgrades?
