@Tyriar that is just not implemented because I was questioning the usefulness of such behaviour. We can wait for more user feedback on this before deciding anything.

@rwatts3 I will announce the builds over at #14909 once we had a first round of fixing in from our endgame this week. Best to subscribe there to get that announcement.

Ok thanks. I was looking for a way to jump in and assist and hopefully start contributing. Possibly a good first issue scenario. It seems this task along with a lot of others are for Microsoft core devs only.

@rwatts3 if you check out #50458 you will actually find some download links to special built versions of VS Code insiders that include the grid work. That issue also has all the details of changes that went in. Thanks for considering to help testing 👍 (but please wait before announcing these builds anywhere until our first round of fixes are in)

I would imagine a pretty large segment of users (with "workbench.editor.closeEmptyGroups": false) would want to get their layout organized before opening a bunch of files. While testing I tried to drag an empty editor before I tried to drag a non-empty one.

@Tyriar I am just questioning that powerusers would use drag and drop for that vs. configuring keybinding commands to flip layouts.
