Windows Version

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.20348.2461]

WSL Version

2.1.5.0

Are you using WSL 1 or WSL 2?

  • WSL 2
  • WSL 1

Kernel Version

5.15.146.1-2

Distro Version

Ubuntu 2204.1.8.0

Other Software

No response

Repro Steps

My WSL does run when I try to start the application. It crashes and shows this error message:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu_2204.1.8.0_x64__79rhkp1fndgsc\ubuntu.exe

The system could not find the environment option that was entered.

Expected Behavior

I expect to be able to open my WSL or Ubuntu window and run Linux-based commands.

Actual Behavior

Whenever I attempt to open my WSL, it crashes after some attempts and returns this error message:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu_2204.1.8.0_x64__79rhkp1fndgsc\ubuntu.exe

The system could not find the environment option that was entered.

Diagnostic Logs

My WSL used to work at the initial point of installation, but I may have accidentally tempered with the user or system environment variable, and now I am not able to use it. I remembered deleting a few variables that appeared to be repetitions of other variables because they had the same values, but I guess this action was counterproductive. Your assistance and support will mean a lot to me. Just to mention as well that I am using a Windows Server 2022 build. Thank you.
