ℹ Computer information

  • PowerToys version: 0.29.3
  • PowerToy Utility: Fancyzones
  • Running PowerToys as Admin: no
  • Windows build number: 20H2 (19042.685)

2 screens, 1 5120x1044 and one 3840x2160 screen

📝 Provide detailed reproduction steps (if any)

1.Receive email in Outlook with attachments
2. Open attachement (for example word document)
3. Word doc is opened, when moving the window with win-arrow it doesn't snap to the fancy zones. It uses different zones?

✔️ Expected result

Windows respects fancyzones settings

❌ Actual result

When the app is selected, some weird box is drawn, the window snaps to that with the minimize and maximize button not visible anymore (see screenshot). the template used for FancyZones is 3 coloumns with a bit wider column in the middle.

wondering if app guard does maybe a different user or under some type of elevation

notes: even as PT as admin, it won't snap. Wonder if the lack of a parent process maybe?

@mahoekst @crutkas
in order to reproduce it, do you have to open an attachment or can you reproduce it opening Word directly?
Can you snap it with Windows Snap?

Open an attachment via outlook. I do think it can snap

We already investigate Application Guard in the past #616 and it was added to https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/wiki/Application-Compatibility
Application Guard isolates the app in a sandbox and since FancyZones runs at user level, the events required to process the window are not reaching FancyZones.
