Different language for the emoji panel

First, In the emoji panel, it is impossible to get an emoji by typing its denomination in another language.

For example, my system is in French, as well as my keyboard ; If I want to search for an emoji by its English denomination, it will never be proposed or found.

It would be nice to be possible to select the desired language, independently of the system, for the emoji search.

Example :

(My system is in French)

  • Denomination of the emoji in French :

  • Denomination of the emoji in English :

Emoji via the ":" character

In addition, in many programs, the use of the combinaison : + emoji's name allows you to add an emoji or open a panel to select them.
On Windows, this combination has no effect.

I wish I could have the combinaison : + emoji's name instead of having to open the panel with Win + ; and then type the denomiation of the emoji.

Example :

  • Github :
    image

  • Discord :
    image
(The system is in French and it finds the emoji via its English denomination)

Keep the emoji panel open

Moreover, when using the panel, if you delete an emoji because you select the wrong one, the panel closes, which is very frustrating.

Summarize requests

  • Allow to choose the desired language for the emoji search
  • Automatically open the panel when combining characters : + emoji's name
  • Keep the panel open when emoji is deleted

The : could be done with #5074

  1. The diffrent language thing is a thing in windows that we can't change. You can search or suggest it in the Windows feedback app.

I don't see a use of this issue. If i'm wrong please tell me

It's not really the same thing.
In the ticket you are quoting, you have to preconfigure the elements in advance; the purpose of my ticket is to be able to select an emoji via a character-based shortcut without having to preconfigure anything.

@crutkas this sounds like an improvement for the Emoji Panel and the way Windows apps accept emojis while typing.

  1. what is your keyboard language. is it french or english? This should work if your KB lang is French
  2. this is complicated to actually do. Using your exact example, GitHub would want this overriding for their stuff.
  3. Good spot for Feedback hub as this is dealing with deeper OS integration
