Summary of the new feature/enhancement

Add support to preview of PSD too. Generally, this is a request to support more file types.

I want to be able to preview PSDs like a photo.

What do you mean PDF? Those are displayed already. Right?

Not sure, maybe someone else can check. On my computer, I have thumbnails displayed for almost every file type via 3rd party programs. The main reason that I looked for these types of software were for displaying thumbs for PSD, PDF, and AI files. I would love to get rid of 3rd party software and only need to use the window power tool.

PDF is already supported, I checked. It was actually the reason I thought about PSDs.

Same thing, as much as possible, I want everything to be from Microsoft or at least recommended by them. Not really into third-party software.

yes, PSD files thumbnails would be great. I also want to get rid of third party tolls for such basic functionality.

Edit: Add thumbnails for PSD files (photoshop files) #7672 is closed now. Will track this here.

This is something that the PT Team is not planning to do for now. But a community member could make this happen.

@ectoanonymous I think this is a good idea, something right now the core team doesn't have the bandwidth to do. hence "help wanted" tag. This is something i do see value in

Wanted to add to this
When syncing Onedrive files in explorer the thumbnails for PSD's also get pulled. So that must mean that Onedrive has a handler for PSD thumbnails. Maybe it can be reused by the PowerToys team to enable this feature in offline locations.

Because we're retiring the file explorer previewers.

This really needs to happen! It would speed up my workflow so much.

Has anyone found out an alternative to show thumbnails in windows explorer? I tried adding SageThumbs, Honeyview and a few others that claim they can do this but so far nothing has worked.

Anyone have any recommendations?

You can do this with the FastPictureViewer Codec and it works great, but it's not free and previewing files like PSD and Ai natively in 2024 shouldn't even be a discussion for a modern OS like win 11.
