Quick Accent: to add opening "¡" and "¿" as options #26370
Comments
I came searching for the same thing as you. Turns out that "¿" and "¡" are both available under the "," key (on UK QWERTY layout), as referenced here #22442 (comment). However, I am confused as to why "¡" does not appear under the "Spanish" character set, but "¿" does. That might be an issue worth raising. EDIT |
Thank you for looking this up, but this response does not completely address my request. I don't mean to "somewhere" add the "¡" and "¿" signs, but to have quick accent show "¡" as an option on the same key where "!" shows, and "¿" as an option on the same key where "?" shows, to make tem easy to find. For example, we have all kind of useful signs hidden in the US Intl keyboard, that when you need them and are not the most frequently used ones, you have to go "key hunting" to see which one it was. That's why I like the Quick Accent option to show the alternatives to a character used in other languages as options in the overhead. UsIntl keyboard actually has "¿" as [AltGr]-"/" (on "?") and "¡" on [AltGr]-"1" (on "!"), but UsIntl has its own drawbacks, like spaces required after symbols commonly used in English or programming for the symbols to show. |
Ah I see, I misunderstood your suggestion. I agree, being able to change the keybinds for some/all symbols would be useful. |

Description of the new feature / enhancement
Using the US keyboard as reference, the "1" key has the "!" sign for uppercase. It would be great for Quick Accent to show the opening exclamation sign "¡" used in Spanish to show as an option for "1".
Similarly, the "/" key has the "?" sign for uppercase. Quick Accent could show the opening question mark "¿" as an option for "/".
Scenario when this would be used?
This would be useful for Spanish text written on US keyboards, or other keyboards missing these signs.
