Verbose regex?

Is it possible to maintain a .md file with verbose regexes so contributors can understand it better and maybe improve or add features?

That's an excellent idea, and something that should be high on my priority list. I'm first planning on writing up a test suite, but that will definitely be on my agenda for the near future.
