I know that there is a way to activate adbd an use adb on SailfishOS to access alien dalvik. Though I never did it and only know about this it throu a hack to get android apps as defaults for various filetypes.
You can try search together.jolla.com for that topic an should find the way on how to activate adbd.

As for the issue itself. I also had that and assumed bad connection or WebSockets technology itself to be the culprit.
Powersaving might also play into cards here though other apps don't suffer from it.
As for a new build I will try updating the APK soon. Though keep in mind the Jolla Store might get this update a few weeks from now as I don't suppose the staff working over Christmas.

The problem with ADB is that I don't really have the time to delve into this, as Android development is completely terra incognita for me. Got other stuff for xmas and got a lot of work when I get back from the holidays :(

If you build the latest source, is it possible to "leak" the APK? I'd love to give it a shot before waiting.
