If we will stick to desktop environment tradition, windows should get maximized when dragging them to top and fill the left or right half of the screen when hitting left and right sides.
This is just a feature idea: when hitting corners, windows could fill the quartets of the screen. For example, when dragged to the top right corner, window would be aligned to fit the top right quarter of the screen.

I've already seen it somewhere (most likely Unity). It can be really helpful sometimes.
Also, don't forget about maximizing by double click on header.
