Before starting, go to settings -> system->about and check that you have Windows home 10

Step1: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10

  • Go to the attached link and look under "Update to WSL2"
  • Check your windows version by selecting windows logo + R and follow the steps from the website

Step 2: If Windows Version is not 2004

  • Click the words updated version 2004 on the website and it will take you to the correct settings
  • It will take a while for it to be fully installed, but just be patient and continue to go back and check on it
  • It will make you restart your computer multiple times

Step 3: Enable the "Windows Subsystem for Linux"

  • Type in "command prompt" in the lower-left search box on your screen and click run administrator
  • A screen will pop up
  • Go back to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10 and look under "Install the Windows Subsystem for Linux" and copy and paste the code they give you into the command line
  • Press enter and this should run successfully

Step 4: Downloading docker https://docs.docker.com/docker-for-windows/install/

  • Go to the link and download docker (stable)
  • It's going to make you restart your computer a few times, but just do whatever they tell you to do
  • It's going to ask you to update Linux Kernel before finishing installing, so just follow the steps they provide
