as in the old client. maybe this could be handled by having some parameter indicating one of a small number of preset configurations of the golden layout (similar to how we currently tacitly assume that every microview ought to have a microsynteny legend as well as a so-labelled "macrosynteny legend" which really seems more like a taxon-based-selector when the macroview is not even initially present). We might have to similarly assume that the macrosynteny view query is the top query track in the microview (or else default to circos if there are several queries). thinking out loud while it's on my mind.

This is by design. However, I see your point about it being confusing when the whole view gets reset. I'll update it to just change the Golden Layout focus back to the micro-synteny viewer, which will updating as a result of the "drive". A Circos drag will still reset the view, though.
