Visual Code Cells

I'd like to write an extension to notebook to allow "code" cells to be rendered with arbitrary HTML, that way you could create visual cells that write code from the GUI. Similar to Hazel's Livelits

I've been going through the codebase and extension examples but before I spend too much time, does anyone have any recommendations on:

1. Whether it will work at all
2. How would be a good way to integrate it
3. What is the minimal possible restrictions I could add
