Describe the bug

context
When I do use examples that have markdown outputs e.g. https://executablebooks.github.io/thebe/ipywidgets.html

expectation
I expected the markdown to render properly

But instead I get plain text

problem
This is a problem for people!

Reproduce the bug

run the cookies example here https://executablebooks.github.io/thebe/ipywidgets.html
