The status system has landed on main

The status system has landed and the documentation is in the readme. It probably needs a more comprehensive guide, since there's so much that can be done with it. I know that LEDs are the most popular use case, but since I don't personally use them, I'd appreciate it if someone else could provide some good examples.

I expect I'll add more statuses as they come up, and I'm sure I've missed some places where the status events should be firing, but I forgot to integrate them. Please provide feedback here in the discussion forums and also report any bugs you find.

Hi I'm trying to implement this status that will make the configuration a lot easier but so far no luck. Already try it with and without arguments. All of the actions macros like STATUS_WLED_HEATING etc. are tested and working. The problem is with the automation. This is what I have so far.

You're running the commands both when entering and exiting a status, which I can't imagine is what you want since your macros aren't doing anything with the status arguments. You're also running STATUS_PRINTING when you're not printing, which doesn't seem correct.

I don't know exactly what your macros do or when you intend them to run, but I'm guessing you were trying to do something like this:

That will run your STATUS_PRINTING command when the gcode file starts printing (i.e. after the PRINT_START phases complete). And it will run your STATUS_EXTRUDER_HEATING command whenever the extruder is waiting to finish heating (even when not printing).

But you also don't seem to have any commands that shut your status LEDs off, rather than let them run indefinitely. If you had a STATUS_OFF macro you could add a line like this to the section above to turn off the status LEDs whenever the printer enters the ready state:

Ohh I'm so dumb. I was putting the whole configuration I post above in one configuration file and when I try what you suggest didn't work either, then I realized the [gcode_macro _km_options] was under the printer.cfg. It's working great when I finish installing the Knomi this new method would be SO easy. Thank you again for bringing those awesome macros!

Glad you got it sorted. Would you mind posting your final set of GCODE_ON_PRINT_STATUS lines to this thread after you have it all set up? I think it could be a useful example for other people trying to set up status LEDs. And since I don't use LEDs, I never bothered making anything other than a test harness to verify everything worked.

I should first warn that I haven't tested this exact config on a printer, because I don't have one with quite the same hardware. However, it's such a simple config that unless I made a typo it should be fine. Either way, you'll want to save a copy of the old config and test this first before kicking off a long print.

First, add this into your [gcode_macro _km_options] section (to set the load length for the Orbiter):

variable_load_length: 60.0

Then remove the whole Orbiter config (macros and all) and replace it with the filament runout and button configs below. The filament_switch_sensor automatically handles the pause, runout state, and all of the event delays that the Orbiter macros were doing manually. I didn't bother adding back in all the console messages (except for the one if you press the unload button while printing).

After that just test that it loads properly when you insert the filament, and unloads when you press the button. Assuming that's all good just run a short print to test the filament runout handling.

I haven't fully tested but I already like it. Now I can see the status of the filament sensor in Mainsail, for some reason I can't with the other macro. Thank You!

Hopefully it all worked out. Regarding the new config showing up in Mainsail/Fluidd, it's just that front-ends find any filament sensors in your config and expose them via the UI. The old config didn't appear because it used a bunch of macros to wrap a gcode_button, so as far as the front-ends are concerned it simply wasn't a filament sensor.

I got around to wiring up an LED and realized I wanted GCODE_ON_PRINT_STATUS to be just a little more versatile, so it will now accept a list of statuses, or all to just register for the full list.

My setup has this in the gcode section of my [gcode_macro _km_options]:
