How to prevent events from disappearing from the calendar when their start time has passed?

Events from my synced Google calendar disappear when their start time has passed, if they haven't been scheduled as tasks before.
I don't understand how SP decides whether to prompt me or not to add scheduled tasks from my calendar at the beginning of the day. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
