the Download button on the main page doesn't work

For me it downloads a 4Mb zip file... maybe check your browser's downloads view.

perhaps it's something to do with my adblock chrome extension

I'm using adblock and chrome too... (and Mac OSX) you could try right-clicking and going to "Open link in new window" or "save link as".
