Please see discussion on the OBI tracker for the IAO term Directive Information Entity: obi-ontology/obi#988

Update: in the last OBI call, we agreed to and would like to suggest the following definition:

"an information content entity that can be concretized as a realizable entity or a part thereof"

per discussion in
obi-ontology/obi/issues/988

Maybe this could be encoded in OWL and the human definition could be more human-friendly?

Current logical axioms of 'Directive Information Entity' is
'is about' some 'realizable entity'
Based on Chris suggestion, we can update it as
'is concretized as' some ('realizable entity' or 'part of' some 'realizable entity') (according proposed textual entity)
or simplify it as:
'is concretized as' some 'realizable entity'

Any thought?

@cmungall Any suggestion on the textual definition? Thanks!

The current definition is "An information content entity whose concretizations indicate to their bearer how to realize them in a process."
Proposed definition is "an information content entity that can be concretized as a realizable entity or a part thereof".

Bringing this back for objective specification and other directive information entities needed over in the UN SDGIO.

The textual definitions really must be more human-readable. For example, the first part of the objective specification definition is fine:

A directive information entity that describes an intended process endpoint.

But the second part isn't:

When part of a plan specification the concretization is realized in a planned process in which the bearer tries to effect the world so that the process endpoint is achieved.

The grammar doesn't even make sense as far as I can tell.

Directive information entity

@cmungall Any suggestion on the textual definition? Thanks!

The current definition is "An information content entity whose concretizations indicate to their bearer how to realize them in a process."
Proposed definition is "an information content entity that can be concretized as a realizable entity or a part thereof".

An information content entity which, when understood by an agent, indicates how a process should unfold.

I think that's general enough and accurate enough to work for both objective and plan specifications. A more technical def can be placed in another AP if needed.

Objective specification

Just dropping the second part of the definition and a few tweaks to the first improve things here.

A directive information entity which describes the intended endpoint and outcomes of a planned process.

I think, it would help to link to here with a 'term tracker item' AP on the respective classes, to help users understand the current definitions better?
