The EKS runtime that we've currently got is powerful, but it's also a pain to set up and chock full of incidental complexity that may get in the way of researchers in the future. It would be valuable to have an EC2 runtime that launches instances of a given type running the Amazon Linux AMI and launches containers on them, perhaps using Systems Manager Run Command or something similar.
