This issue was brought up by giblet on Slack. I was able to reproduce on Firefox for Debian, but not Chrome on Windows.

I signed in using the Google Auth method, but when it brought me back to the map, I appeared to be logged out. However, the local data showed my user key. I was able to show the logged in user icon and upload button by opening a new map.openaerialmap.org tab.
