Description

We'd like to create billing budgets and corresponding alert thresholds for projects. Currently we need to set these up manually after creating a project with Terraform.

NOTE: I couldn't find any open GCP APIs to do this currently, but I hope you are in a good position to lobby for opening them

New or Affected Resource(s)

  • google_billing_budget (?)

Potential Terraform Configuration

resource "google_project" "my_project" {
  name = "My Project"
  project_id = "your-project-id"
  org_id     = "1234567"
}
resource "google_pubsub_topic" "billing_alerts" {
  name = "billing-alerts"
  project = google_project.my_project.project_id
}

resource "google_billing_budget" "my_budget" {
  name = "My Project Budget"
  project_id = google_project.my_project.project_id
  amount = "LAST_MONTH_SPEND" # Or a specified amount, such as 1500
  include_credits = true
  action {
    percentage = 75
    trigger_on = "actual"
  }
  action {
    percentage = 100
    trigger_on = "forecasted"
  }
  notification {
    type = "pubsub" # If needed for clarity? Currently this is the only supported type
    project_id = google_pubsub_topic.billing_alerts.project
    topic = google_pubsub_topic.billing_alerts.name
  }
}
