Among open source full virtualization solutions, KVM is currently the
most promising one. The kernel-based hypervisor is the backend of Red
Hat's RHEV, which is positioned as a competitor of VMware vSphere
(hypervisor ESX). Searching for a free open source solution to manage
KVM, I recently stumpled upon oVirt, which is also also developed by Red
Hat. It looked good in the first place, but when trying to gather more
information about it, it all seemed a bit dusty and quiet around it.. no
guides, no updates for long time, etc..

But now the project will be relaunched completely, there is a new
website already with new information and the project will now be
pushed by Cisco, IBM, Intel, NetApp, Red Hat, and SUSE who have formed
the Open Virtualization Alliance. The relaunch will officially take
place on November 1st-3rd on the Cisco main campus. Interesting, that
Cisco is pushing KVM and oVirt now, because they've always been
completely into VMware. Here you can view the topics of the event
and the goals of the Open Virtualization Alliance.

Nice to know that oVirt is not dead and I'm looking forward to watching
the progress of this promising platform!
