support time-capped gifts #255
Comments
I think this would be a good idea. Personally, I'm always wary of subscription based stuff because I'm terrible at remembering what it is and whether I want to keep it going, etc. Subscriptions are hot, now, in start-up land for this very reason: people tend to forget about them and pay regardless of their use level. I'd want to feel good about a donation and being able to time cap or give lump sum makes me feel good about things, not nervous. |

In the vein of @danostrowski's comment, maybe a monthly reminder email of your subscriptions with or without amounts included. |
Time-capped gifts are a solid idea, but you could also implement by doing an amount-capped gift and deciding the rate of payout. I prefer the $1/day model. So if I wanted to give someone $100 it'd get to them $1/day for 100 days. But the payout rate could also be tipper-determined. |
Hey @isaacs, would this model adequately address your use case yesterday (#5 (comment))? What if you could say on Gittip "Pay so-and-so $100 a week for the next 10 weeks." The money wouldn't be escrowed in Gittip, we'd transfer $100 per week from you to so-and-so. If that option had been available yesterday, would you have used it? |
If you changed the 100 to a 1000, and the 10 to a 1, then yes, I would have used it. But if I have the money now, and want to give it to someone now, all at once, then I don't see any value in doing anything other than that. |
@isaacs Okay, thanks for the feedback. :-) |
Closing in light of our decision to shut down Gratipay. Thank you all for a great run, and I'm sorry it didn't work out! 😞 💃 |
"I want to give $12 a week for the next 20 weeks"
That kind of thing.
