I would like to remember why i started gittip-ing and increased... etc

Please provide a public and private note against each person I gittip...

Parts of #27 would help here, but the private notes idea is new.

From @pjf on #2010:

So, I've got into the habit of tipping folks when I find myself using their software regularly. The gotcha is that I'm now tipping a lot of people, but I've no longer any idea idea why I'm tipping some of them. My memory just isn't that good.

It'd be awesome if I can write a private note to myself for each person, and for this to appear when I review who I'm tipping. Maybe even allow private notes on folks I'm not tipping, but would like to tip in the future.

Specifically:

I’m looking at https://gratipay.com/offby1/giving/, and I see a nice list of names to whom I’m giving money, and the amounts. However, I’ve got enough names on that list now that I can’t remember who they are, what they do, and (most importantly) why I chose to donate to them.

So I wish that each item on the list had a “notes” section, which displays any text that I’d like to associate with a recipient. Then I could write, next to (for example) [example].

That way, I could easily reconsider my donations: maybe I’ll increase this one or delete that one.

Thanks!

I just found a case where "teams" works as well as a hypothetical "notes" feature: I wanted to ensure that the Magit project lived long and prospered, so I looked up its developers, and then looked to see if I was already tipping them (in fact, I was already tipping tarsius). But then I noticed that he is a member of a magit team, so I cruelly took my tip from tarsius, and instead gave it to the team. Now, in the future, I'll see "magit" on my list of recipients, and I'll know just why I'm donating to him/her/it/them.

Notes are good. They can turn into parseable bits of data one day.

Adapting this per requirements emerging on #1199 for an invoice line-item description. Note would be shared between tipper and tippee but would not be fully public. Tippee records note in new tips.note field, which gets copied to transfers.note for posterity (tips.note is mutable).

Would it be possible for tipper to donate anonymously after setting this note?

@techtonik Yes. This wouldn't affect anonymity. See #236 for that.

+1 https://gratipay.freshdesk.com/helpdesk/tickets/1705

Also, a short description next to individual names, i.e. “webmaster”, “forum moderator”, “gratipay founder”, etc.

+1 the ability to record a note as to why I am tipping a person would be great. Preferably a private note as it's mostly just a reference for myself. Some people I tip because of an obscure plugin they made and a year later I can't figure it out from their username/profile alone.

Thanks @schlick. FYI it's likely that this ticket will become obsolete in the next couple months, due to changes we'll be making in light of Balanced shutting down. tl;dr We'll probably be evolving Gratipay to focus on giving to specific open-source projects. Deep dive here if you like:

I mean, the same thing happens to me. I go look at my Giving page and I scratch my head and wonder, "Who is this person, again?" :)

Closing in light of our decision to shut down Gratipay.

Thank you all for a great run, and I'm sorry it didn't work out! 😞 💃
