Gittip iPhone app using in-app purchases #183
Comments
That would mean Apple gets 30%. That is a HIGH transaction cost. |
@thiloplanz it might be worth it. 1000 app downloads = 1000 credit cards on file, while you need 25.000 registered users on the website to achieve that number, according to the 4% figure given recently. I don't know what the sign-up conversion is, but even if it's off the charts at 25%, this means 100k visitors; so the app store could offer >100x better return. Anyway, it's very likely this wouldn't be allowed. See http://developer.apple.com/news/pdf/in_app_purchase.pdf |
I've played with subscriptions on Android via Google Play, in some of Glu Mobile's games. Their charging system seems to work very well, and would fit our model. Of course, I'm not sure what Google's T&C looks like, but I imagine it's less strict that Apple's. |

Yucky. Create one for the Android market first, then Itunes. |
Yes, Android should be first. If only because of larger market share, but also because Android is closer to gittip in philosophy. |
+1 from @cellhelmetMike at coffee shop. :-) |
Just went and looked at analytics. Looks like we're running about 10% mobile, which is low for genpop but probably due to our programmer skew. |
Re-ticketed to gratipay/inside.gratipay.com#974 for further discussion and planning. After deciding on concrete implementation plan and dev work starts, this will be reopened for tracking purpose. |
Floated on HN. Don't 100% understand the flow yet.
