"Go to definition" works for definitions in .gql/.graphql files, but not for schema.json

My config file looks like this:

projects:
  default:
    schema: app/javascript/libs/gql/schema/schema.json
    documents:
      - app/javascript/libs/gql/**/*.{gql,jsx,tsx}

  chatbot:
    schema: lib/documents/chat_bot_core_schema.graphql
    documents:
      - app/javascript/**/Chatbot/**/*.{gql,jsx,tsx}
      - app/javascript/**/chatbot/**/*.{gql,jsx,tsx}

And if I open a .gql file which has

fragment UploadFragment on Uploadable {
  ... on UploadedAvatar {
    ...UploadedAvatarFragment
  }
  # ...
}

I can navigate to UploadedAvatarFragment (in another .gql file covered by the app/javascript/libs/gql/**/*.{gql,jsx,tsx} blob), but not to UploadedAvatar or to Uploaded, both defined in schema.json. For comparison, I can go to these definitions in RubyMine with https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/8097-graphql (and even better, it shows the schema from schema.json in GraphQL syntax; is that something the VS Code extension can do at the moment?).
