I really don't understand github at all. I get referred here for useful software bits and bug fixes, yet all I ever see is a disorganized pile of folders with zero explanation as to what is what, how to use them, which bits to use for what, or where to install them. Just like this one. Frustrating.

On the readme.md or under the list of files you will find usually find links to the compiled version. This is GitHub, it's made so programmers can modify each file of a project, or even branch it to create alternative versions with added features. That's why you see so many files and folders instead of a single file.
