Why was MariaDB 10.2 dropped from community version after 4 years? #3357
Comments
No reply after weeks - does redgate not care about promises made, or just waiting until the time is right to say 'oh look NOW it IS may 2022, so all is good.' |
Hello, Sorry, you are correct, and thanks for bringing this to our attention. This is due to a mistake in our internal documentation which had MariaDB support as being added in 2016. We will be putting Community support back, however, as you rightly point out, the 5 year horizon ends in May, at which point support will move into Teams edition |
Thanks! |
I was not aware that 'guaranteed to be supported for 5 years' implied a timebomb set in the code which just deactivates the functionality after a certain date... :O ... which is exactly what happens for us today made us unable to deploy even hotfixes from one day to another. Thank you. |
This restriction is no longer in place from Flyway version 10 (October 2023). We have updated Flyway so that it works with ALL supported database versions, so if you upgrade to version 10 you can access all supported versions of MariaDB. The community version of Flyway now works with All versions of MariaDB. You can access the latest download from https://www.red-gate.com/products/flyway/community/download/ |
MariaDB 10.2 GA release was May 2017 ( https://mariadb.com/kb/en/changes-improvements-in-mariadb-102/ ). Per your policy "For Flyway Community a database release is guaranteed to be supported for 5 years from its GA (General Availability) release date." ( https://flywaydb.org/download/faq#how-long-are-database-releases-supported-in-each-edition-of-flyway ) it should be supported until May 2022, or did I miss something?
Did you confuse the alpha release date of MariaDB 10.2 in April 2016 ( https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-1020-release-notes/ ) with the GA version without proper checking, is your guarantee not based on the GA release or did you just change it to encourage more subscriptions?
