From matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk#2995 it seems that riot should use twemoji as emoji font since version 1.2.0, but it uses a different one for me. I don't have twemoji installed on the host, but I expected the font to be bundled with the flatpak.

Ok, it seems that release 1.2.2 includes (or loads) the twemoji font itself, without it having to be installed on the host. Currently, big emojis are rendered a bit wrong (element-hq/element-web#9981), but at least they are in the right font.
So I guess there is nothing to be done from the flatpak side any more.
