Proper address is more-detailed than just "envelope" and "formal" forms, and some people have multiple titles that they'd be happy to use (to greater or lesser extent) or which they don't want people to use (especially if their title is often assumed).
Real examples (with names changed):
Jo is happy to use the title "Dr." or "Ms.", but explicitly does not like the title "Mrs." nor "Miss."
Chris prefers not to use a title, will tolerate "Mx.", but explicitly does not like "Mr."
Alex uses the title "Rev." only

Hi @Dan-Q - great to hear from you and thanks for using name.pn. We've used each other's products now as I used your deed poll generator to change my name in 2019!
Not including titles was a conscious choice when I first created name.pn, because I wanted to try and force us away from title-centric ways of thinking about formal names, and instead focussing on the context in which names are used. But I appreciate there are use cases I haven't considered!
Before I add this to the backlog, could I please ask you a couple more questions?
What other forms of "proper address" can you imagine beyond "envelope" and "formal"? It sounds like I need to capture those as a priority.
Can you explain more about the use cases for needing title to be treated separately from those use cases? Is it because you might have a formal name with multiple possible titles within it? Or because you might want to (e.g.) use the name.pn API to fill out forms that require title to be stored separately? Or something else?
The reason for my slight hesistation: I'm probably being idealistic in imagining a future where forms just ask for a name.pn profile instead of title/firstname/lastname and then use the appropriate context to address you, and title just becomes a component of some people's names rather than a forced concept. But at the same time I really want to tell people "if you have to use a title for me please use Mx and if that's not available use Ms, but please don't use a title unless you really have to". So I definitely appreciate that name.pn needs something.
