Clarify debt guidance on candidate H4CC guide #4924
Comments
@bmathesonFEC - we'd like to integrate this ticket into the Candidate Guide updating work. Let's discuss. |
Distributed edits to the following five pages to the Content Team for review before publication. The changes on candidate debt pages fall in to two categories, RAD requested changes to improve customer service and updates for the campaign guide: RAD requested changes:
Campaign guide updates: |
Sent to Information Division on Friday 6/10 for final approval prior to publishing drafts related to the campaign guide changes. |
All changes were approved with the exception of the "Raising contributions to retire debts" page. Those will be held back because the content re-ordering on that page affects content related to the $250K candidate loan repayment cap. That page will be updated when committees approves an interim rule to update the candidate loan repayment reg. Note added to #5223 to update the rest of the page language when that work is undertaken. |
The pages have been updated and with the changes: |
Summary
The debt section of the Help For Candidates and Committees guide for candidates has general guidance and reporting guidance about debts but the format makes it difficult to find information about basic debts and debt reporting.
Unlike other H4CC sections, the debts section provides general guidance about debts directly on the debts subsection of the the landing page for Handling Candidate Loans, Debts, and Advances without linking to another page dedicated to debt guidance. As a result there is no click through to the reporting guidance for basic debts from the landing page.
As an example of the typical structure of these pages, consider the "Advances" subsection of the Loans, Debts, Advances landing page: The Advances subsection has a introductory paragraph about advances and a link to a stand alone page about Advances which has a link to the reporting example.
