Could we separate worker first/last name just like the children?

This can be done, but it would require a database change and a FrontEnd change on the Access database. This would also make it incompatible with previous years...which may be ok.

It will be ok if workers are incompatible with previous years so if you can make this change it will make it easier for us going forward.

When you change workers to two separate fields for first name, last name it will affect other places in the database like adding a bus captain to a specific route. Just a thought as I was looking at routes on the database.
