Gear VR: "Click to start OS Monitor..."

When using with the Samsung Gear VR, a black box with:

   OS Montior
   Click to start OS Monitor...

is displayed statically near the bottom (i.e. the ui_shortcut_detail string).

Seems to be related to the notification, but OS Monitor is the only app I have installed that appears in VR mode. Only resolution so far seems to be exit OS Monitor before using the Gear. Has anyone else experienced this or have a workaround?

Present on (from my testing):

• Galaxy Note 4 with Gear VR Innovator Edition
• Galaxy S7 Edge with Gear VR final
