Description

I had some suggestions for the UI copy that was recently added to let users know when they couldn't modify a page's data view. Here's an example of the copy that's used for the Alerts page:

This copy, or a similar version of it, is also present on the Rules page and in Timeline. @e40pud shared more information on it here.

@e40pud for the Rules and Alerts pages, I think this would work:

This page's data view can't be adjusted.

The copy that shows up on Timeline will need to be a bit different for two reasons:

  • When users open Timeline, it displays as a modal, not a page.
  • The copy only appears when users select the Show only detection alerts option in the Data view selection menu/modal. In other words, the copy is conditional and only appears when the Timeline data view is configured in a certain way.

Here are some options to consider for Timeline:

  • The Security Data View is the default data view for alerts and can't be changed.
  • The data view cannot be changed.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks @nastasha-solomon! These changes look good to me!

I would also want to ask @semd to look into this as well, to make sure we did not miss any other cases.

After chatting with @yctercero, we decided to move this into the Kibana repo as an enhancement/feature request.
