Today, if a user creates a new visualization or search, it takes at least 4 clicks from saving it to adding it to a dashboard:

  1. save the visualization or search,
  2. click on "Dashboard",
  3. assuming this is the dashboard to add the saved visualization or search to, click +, otherwise add another 2 clicks to load desired dashboard
  4. click the visualization or search (add one more click to get to search tab), thereby adding it to the dashboard

I assume (untested) that most users will save visualizations or searches with the intent of eventually adding them to some dashboard. So perhaps, while the user is still within the context of saving the visualization or search, they can be presented with an option to save + add to a dashboard at the same time?

Totally agree. Would be really nice to have this

It would be cool if the user was redirected to the dashboard after they hit saved (or given the option to).

Would be awesome if we did this one at the same time: #3127

Basically the ability to list where the visualization is being used. I envision this being a tab next to Data and Options in the visualization editor.

Discussing with Chris:

  • Save with v button that shows panel
  • Panel should show top 5 dashboards (ordered by popularity)
  • Search (autocomplete) for more dashboards

Since this issue was created we added the Add visualization link on the add panel of a dashboard which cuts down on the number of clicks.

Aside from that, I think we need to tackle this more generally, as we'll be adding more and more apps to kibana. Think 'Add visualization to dashboard/canvas/etc'. I'm gathering requirements for this kind of thing in #19875.

Yeah, addressing this generally would be nice, I'd still like to see a similar "Add new Saved Search" button on that tab.

@ThomThomson Can this be closed with the time to visualize efforts that have merged in the last few minors?

I think this can be closed in favor of the time to visualize efforts.
