The documentation on this page simply tells you that you can export and import objects (visualizations, dashboards, etc..). It doesn't note the caveats and whether you can import/export between different Kibana instances that are hooked up to different ES clusters. Until the enhancement request is implemented (#4288), it will be helpful to clarify the limitations of the current functionality and the workarounds that are available.
