The default sort order has changed a few times recently for dashboard and visualize list views (possibly others). Some users would like the ability to configure the default sort for these views. I could easily see this as being an advanced setting in Kibana.

Most of the time they have changed because of actual issues being in there :-) There are currently only two things you can really sort on: the title or the "natural sort order" (the order ES scored them). The latter only makes sense if you search them. That's why we decided by default it will be sorted alphabetically (also because that it wasn't sorted alphabetically has been reported multiple times), as soon as the user searches we sort it by natural order, so the actual match is shown on top (we didn't do that in visualize for a long time and it was a reported bug, see #14687).

I don't see a good reason to let the user customize that default order, because I wouldn't see to what? We're sorting alphabetically so the only order we could give them would be by natural order, which is "purely random order", which doesn't have any benefit at all without searching.

I would vote not to add this and add another super small customization option, barely any user would need.

This is already possible with the changes the shared-ux team did on the listing pages!
