Browser OS version:

Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, from source, etc.):

Describe the bug:
When using the new lens metric visualisation and selecting a line as support, the line should only consider it's own bucket and render that completely.

Expected behavior:

Screenshots (if relevant):

E.g. in this case the time picker is set to ~10 years. I would expect each line in the yearly summary, to take the full width.

I think this is more an enhancement for the metric visualization rather than a bug.

@philippkahr

the line should only consider it's own bucket

As far as I understand this statement, this is how the visualization already works.

Is the question really around why you're getting line visualizations that don't fill each metric tile?

Ah I see the confusion. That was lost in translation.

I would love each tile to be filled to the full width. For me it currently looks like it just "plots" a line graph with the x axis using the full 10 years as width and then placing it's dataset accordingly on the x axis.

Instead it should see the bucket e.g. 2022 and create a line that spreads from 1 Jan - 31 Dez 2022. I think the issue is that the @timestamp is set to minimum 1 year, not allowing for more granularity?

not really sure what the best solution is.

Hi @philippkahr ,

Just to clarify if I understand your request 100%.

I have made a recording with a similar setup just with 1week instead of 1 year. See recording:

Skaermoptagelse.2023-05-11.kl.22.22.56.mov

This is how I understand your "ask":

  • Show the trendline for each year on each metric (same trendline when the user has filtered the dater-range to that particular year (my recording shows this per week when I click on the individual metric).
  • You want this trendline displayed even when the user has selected a time range of 10 years -

Please confirm that this is your ask

If the above is confirmed, then we are in my POV showing the trendline per metric accurately, because you have selected a date range of 10 years and the visualizations are following the date range.

If you want to display a more granular trendline per metric there is a workaround:

  • Create 1 x metric per year and stack them next to each other on a dashboard:

Here is an example with 3 days:
