Using 5.3

To configure an index pattern in Kibana, I have to go to Management tab then click on Configure index pattern. This breaks the workflow if I was on Discover and then realized I want to add a new index pattern to see in Discover, I have to go through multiple clicks: Discover > Management > Configure index pattern > Discover.

Have we considered adding a quick link to the configure index pattern page from Discover tab? Maybe right below the already configured index patterns?

This is an excellent point @bohyun-e. I've actually been thinking that we should move our index-pattern creation and management functionality into Discovery entirely. This would emphasize the role of Discovery as a tool for exploring your indices and the documents within them. Would this introduce any problems for users? Would it solve any, in addition to this one?

We dicsussed that feature recently, and decided to not introduce a button in Discover directly for that. The problem is, that this button would be beneficial in a lot of other places too, so there is no specific reason for having it in Discover. Instead we rather want to give access to that page directly via the global command palette (#15019) yet to be implemented. That way it doesn't matter where the user is, they can navigate to index pattern creation from every place.
