Timer since room become nonempty?

I just wanted to answer the question "how long has that person been in that room?" (in particular to detect whether the user was idling there or joined recently) Perhaps it'd be worth having a timer since anyone joined a room, as a public alternative to the "since admin joined" timer?

Should it be togglable? Default on or off?
