This document explains how to develop on this repository.
Build with the usual
make build-debian # or build-alpine build-slim build-jdk11 build-centos build-centos7 build-openj9 build-openj9-jdk11
Tests are written using bats
under the tests
dir
DOCKERFILE=Dockerfile bats tests DOCKERFILE=Dockerfile-alpine bats tests
Download the test helpers by updating the submodules
git submodule update --init --recursive
Bats can be easily installed with brew install bats
on OS X
Multiarch support is added via the publish-experimental.sh
script, which relies on QEMU for emulating the architecture being built as well as the Docker manifest-tool
for creating registry
v2.2 "thick" manifests.
When changes are pushed to the upstream Jenkins project, a job is triggered via the Jenkinsfile
from this repo, which then runs the publish-experimental.sh
script in parallel mode. Multiarch images created by the script are built/tagged/pushed to the Docker Hub jenkins4eval/jenkins
repo.
Currently supported architectures:
-
amd64
-
arm32
-
arm64
-
s390x
-
ppc64le
NOTE:This functionality may change/move at some point in the future.
In order to debug the master, use the -e DEBUG=true -p 5005:5005
when starting the container.
Jenkins will be suspended on the startup in such case,
and then it will be possible to attach a debugger from IDE to it.
Create a new dedicated target repository in your Docker Hub account, and use it like follows:
export DOCKERHUB_ORGANISATION=batmat
export DOCKERHUB_REPO=test-jenkins
# The log below will help confirm this override was taken in account:
./publish.sh --variant jdk11
Docker repository in Use:
* JENKINS_REPO: batmat/test-jenkins

Create a new dedicated target repository in your Docker Hub account, and use it like follows:
export DOCKERHUB_ORGANISATION=durgadas
export DOCKERHUB_REPO=jenkins
./publish-experimental.sh --variant alpine

Also, one can execute the publish-experimental.sh using:
make publish-experimental
