Closes #539 .

This PR includes:

  • Upgrade gradle
  • Upgrade gradle dependencies (and fix up most deprecation errors&warnings)
  • Add a linter (ktlint) for the backend

Sorry, if these changes are a bit intransparent. Most of them are just due to the linter. (Should've added that one later)
