"@" mentions should be made available by means of a plugin.

I definitely think it would be a good idea to bundle it with as many instances of NodeBB as possible, but from a code separation point of view, a plugin would be best.

When I have time, I can probably take a crack at it.

The plugin is "live", and is installable via npm.

I say "live", because it only works with the bleeding edge version of NodeBB now, and it still has a couple rough edges at the moment.

At least the plugin system should be more mature by 0.0.6. try.nodebb will have this plugin by the end of the day, most likely.
