Background/context

Until geomatching no longer matches Veterans cross-state-lines, improvements can be made to the Schedule Veterans flow to include the ability to transfer geomatched Veterans to another location if a location within their home state best suits them.

  • Veterans are currently being geomatched to the nearest Regional Office (RO) or alternate office, even if that location is across state lines.
  • Some power of attorneys (POAs) cannot perform hearings out-of-state, meaning they either must be scheduled separately from the Veteran (at an in-state RO or alternate office) or they cannot attend the hearing.
  • Veterans are matched by distance as the crow flies rather than by driving distance, meaning they might be closer to their original RO but need to travel to another.

Goals

  • Hearing Coordinators can transfer a Veteran to another location if they are incorrectly matched cross-state lines and require an in-state hearing
  • Hearing Coordinators can identify a Veteran's POA to group them so they can quickly assemble a full docket day for that POA
  • Veterans are geomatched with driving distance
  • If a Veteran needs to be scheduled in another location, hearing Coordinators can select another location, causing that location to be populated with the Veteran in the correct order

Closing now that Veterans are matched in-state based on new geo-matching criteria via #14519.
